Bookkeeping Clerks

Being an accounting background person, I started my career in a small accounting firm. After getting sound knowledge in accounting field and adequate experience, I shifted to a giant accounting firm and since last 20 years, I am working with this 20 million dollar company as a bookkeeping clerk. My basic duty is to manage accounting books and records of the company, with specific attention required in the field of accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Account receivable includes posting every check or cash received on every day basis. In accounts receivable, I post capital amount which some other company owe to us and track due date before which the amount should be paid. Once my company receives the required amount, I enter all the information in accounting software so as to keep track of account receivable data at given point of time. Accounts payable involves doing entry of bills that supposed to be paid by my company in stipulated period of time. To this appropriately, I have to review previous payments, outstanding bills and credit dues. I then post the bills paid to appropriate account. For instance, the entry of electricity bills paid should be done in utility account.

The good part of my job is that I get an opportunity to work with knowledgeable accounting professionals and my job is very close to my home. I like number crunching, working with finance and keeping track of it. As I am very busy in performing my job responsibilities, there is never a monotonous moment occurs in my work life. My current job profile has lot of scope and growth opportunities as I learn something knowledgeable every day during the job.

The bad element about my job is that our entire finance department is going to shift to our corporate office in Missouri, which means I will not able to interact with senior employees with whom I have grown in this company. Though accounting job is somewhat mundane, I always try to make it challenging, exciting by looking out some better terms and ideas. As my job involves managing accounts and finance, the job demands extreme accuracy and responsible decision making from my side.

I always keep learning new things on my job which made my every day work life extremely surprising. The important thing I realized while working is that with lot of hard work and dedication, you can make impossible things possible in your life. Keep patience, if something doesn’t work out in first attempt.
